Hand-Free Pumping

Found it @ Easy Expression. I do not underestand how can I missed it back in Year 2007. Could have make my life so much easier. LOL.

Not available in Malaysia at this moment. I guess an alternative way will be finding a good nursing bra with not too big hole, appropriate size for the breast pump cup will do.

Till then... Happy Breastfeeding!!!!!

My Wedding Reception @ 2002

My wedding reception was at E & O Hotel in Penang. I had my garden wedding just right next to the beach as show in below picture.

I had a very memorable wedding.

Initial, I wanted to be at Lone Pine @ Penang. It would be a real beach side wedding but they do not cater for table dining for more than 15 tables. Below are the Lone Pine @ Penang pictures.

Really love them. LOL....

Priceless Story....

A father came home and found his three children were outside, still in their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn all around the front yard.

The door of his wife's car was open, as was the front door to the house and there was no sign of the dog. Proceeding into the entry, he found an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, and the throw rug was wadded against one wall.

In the front room the TV was loudly blaring a cartoon, and the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing.

In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on the counter, the fridge door was open wide, dog food was spilled on the floor,a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand was spread by the back door.

He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife. He was worried she may be ill, or that something serious had happened. He was met with a small trickle of water as it made its way out the bathroom door. As he peered inside he found wet towels, scummy soap and more toys strewn over the floor.

Miles of toilet paper lay in a heap and toothpaste had been smeared over the mirror and walls. As he rushed to the bedroom, he found his wife still curled up in the bed in her pajamas, reading a novel.

She looked up at him, smiled, and asked how his day went.

He looked at her bewildered and asked, "What happened here today?"

She again smiled and answered, "You know every day when you come home from work and you ask me what in the world did I do today?"

"Yes," was his incredulous reply

She answered, "Well, today I didn't do it."

-------------------------------------------------------------

This story is PRICELESS......

Manage a home is really NOT an easy task. Multi-tasking with numerous of housework. Dealing with children can be super exhausted, frustrated, tiring, testing on your IQ & EQ.... the end results is rewarding + wrinkle on your faces to prove it.

Dealing with career world & managing your subordinates (at least a bunch of people that know how to listen but whether they follow or not is a different case) are much easier dealing with toddlers. You can't give a toddler warning letter / termination letter / "you are fired!!!".

For me, if you can handle the noise pollution from a toddler without a single headache + without back-off + multi-task all the housework to make a house like home. I think you can handle any problem in the office. (Just my 2-cents)

LOL... Enjoy...

Lactogenic Herbs : Mother Nature's Milk Boosters

I guess in every breastfeed mother, there are times where they might feel their milk supply might not enough. I been doing research from time to time to see how to increase milk supply. Lately I found an article very interesting.

To my surprise beside than fenugreek, Alfalfa Leave is another herb that contribute in milk supply. Full article can be view @ Lactogenic Herbs

The secret ingredient to increasing breast milk supply is pump more frequently - well, I would said at least 6 times per day OR direct breast feed frequently (called feed-on-demand).

By taking this herbs and reduce the number of pumping - WILL NOT HELP in increasing the supply. When you are not pump frequently, you are actually telling your brain, baby no need milk and the breasts will produce lesser milk.

Wish to know more:-

World Breastfeeding Week (Aug 1 -7) : Myth vs Fact

While reading my Sunday newspaper, "The Star" dated 26 July 2009. I came across an interesting article which I cannot wait to put it up in my blog. :)

MYTH : "Malnourished mothers cannot breastfeed."

FACT : They can. Moderate maternal malnutrition has little or no effect on milk production. In fact, the mother will continue to produce milk, at the own expense of her own body stores. Extra food and fluids are needed to replenish the mother's own reserves, and micronutrient supplementation may be needed.

ME : New to me ^_^. One thing I knew, if eat too much bitter gourd while breastfeeding will make your milk taste bitter and your baby will refuse to drink. So, do not over-doing - BALANCE.

MYTH : "Stress prevents mothers from producing milk."

FACT : Stress does not prevent production of milk, but may temporarily interfere with its flow. Breastfeeding mothers have lower stress hormone levels than non-breastfeeding mothers.

ME : No wonder I was happy all the times during my breastfeeding period. Cannot imagine, how come it can be so powerful. LOL.

MYTH : "Once a mother stops breastfeeding, she can't restart."

FACT : A mother can restart breastfeeding - there is no time limit. In some contexts, grandmothers have breastfed their grandchildren.

ME : I found this very very interesting. hehe... thinking of giving it a try.

MYTH :"HIV positive mothers should never breastfeed."

FACT : Exclusive breastfeeding for six months is the safest option and gives the best chance of HIV-free child survival, unless total replacement feeding is acceptable, feasible, affordable, sustainable and safe (AFASS) - unlikely in emergencies. After six months, if replacement feeding is still not AFASS, continued breastfeeding with adequate complementary foods is the safest option.

ME : New to me. ^_^ And happy to learn something new.

In fact this series not only about trouble ghost, what I treasure the most is the unconditional love, trust, faith, hope & friendship in this series.

How Jim loves Melinda unconditionally and trust her 100% and without a doubt. It also talks about the bonds of friendship that she build and treasure.

How others view her as nut job cases but she is so determined in what she believe and continue to help others.

Overall, it is amazing and I really love it.

Another Lesson in My Life

When disappointment wreck on you, your whole world at that moment seems like crushed on you. What more you can expect? Regardless you like it or not, you still need to force them down your throat.

Time I would say is the best medicine.

We cannot change someone attitude or behavior, the only thing we can do is lower down our expectation towards them OR expect nothing from them OR just leave them.

Most of the time, it is so hard to let go and the more you hang on - you will only get worstly hurt.

If its meant to happen - it will happen (that is what I believe) regardless how much we blame ourself and become grumphy about it. Let said "NO USE AT ALL".

It is seem like I always learnt my lesson the hard way where all those hurt engrave itself on me and hang on to me as long as I let them. Sound stupid? OR does it sound alike?

Well, I guess I am reaching a point where I should let go and stop blaming myself as I could not control / decide the outcome like.

There are many things in this world (or in my scope of life) still need my attention. So, do not put all eggs in one basket. Spread them. Spread the attention. Spread the focus.

IT IS TIME TO LEARN HOW TO LET GO........

Blocked Duct or Mastitis

A friend of mine was asking me about breastfeeding. Saying that the milk only come through one little hole and even fully engorge - no milk is leaking. Even stand under hot shower, no milk is leaking either.

At first, I thought maybe the breast pump and then mastitis came into my mind but her breast is not red or painful as the baby still can sucks and her pain is because of the engorgement.

Feeling curious, I web-searched about it and to my surprise it is mastitis and I learned something new again. I am glad.

I found this article from About.com

Mastitis

Mastitis is a bacterial infection of the breast that usually occurs in breastfeeding mothers. However, it can occur even in women who are not breastfeeding or pregnant, and can occur even in small babies, of either sex. Nobody knows exactly why some women get mastitis and others do not. Bacteria may gain access to the breast through a crack or sore in the nipple, but women without sore nipples also get mastitis, and most women with cracks in the nipple do not.

Mastitis needs to be differentiated from a plugged or blocked duct, because the plugged or blocked duct does not need treatment with antibiotics, whereas mastitis often, but not always, does require treatment with antibiotics. A blocked duct presents as a painful, swollen, firm mass in the breast. The skin overlying the blocked duct is often quite red, similar to what happens during mastitis, but less intense. Mastitis is usually also associated with fever and more intense pain as well. However, it is not always easy to distinguish between a mild mastitis and a severe blocked duct. A blocked duct, can, apparently, go on to become mastitis. In France, physicians also recognize something they call lymphangite that is fever associated with skin which is hot and red, but there is no underlying painful mass. They do not believe this requires treatment with antibiotics. I have seen a few cases that fit this description in my practice, and indeed, the problem resolves without antibiotics. But then, often so does full blown mastitis.

As with almost all breastfeeding problems, a poor latch, and thus, poor draining of the breast sets up the situation where mastitis is more likely to occur.

Blocked Ducts

Blocked ducts will almost always resolve spontaneously within 24 to 48 hours after onset, even without any treatment at all. During the time the block is present, the baby may be fussy when nursing on that side, as milk flow may be slower than usual. Blocked ducts can be made to resolve more quickly by:

  • Continuing breastfeeding on the affected side.
  • Draining the affected area better. One way of doing this is to position the baby so his chin "points" to the area of hardness. Thus if the blocked duct is in the outside, lower area of your breast (about 4 o'clock), the football hold would be best.
  • Using breast compression while the baby is feeding, getting your hand around the blocked duct and using steady pressure.
  • Applying heat to the affected area (with a heating pad or hot water bottle, but be careful not to injure your skin by using too much heat for too long a period of time).
  • Trying to rest. (Not always easy, but take the baby to bed with you.)

If the blocked duct is associated with a small blister on the end of the nipple, you can open it with a sterile needle. Flame a sewing needle, let it cool off, and puncture the blister. No need to dig around. Just break the blister. Sometimes you can squeeze out a little toothpaste like material from the duct and the duct will immediately unblock. Or, put the baby to the breast and he may unblock it for you. Opening the blister has the added benefit of decreasing nipple pain, even if the blocked duct does not immediately resolve. Come to the clinic if you cannot do it yourself.

If a blocked duct has not settled within 48 hours (unusual), therapeutic ultrasound often works. This can be arranged at a neighbourhood physiotherapy office or sports medicine clinic. Many ultrasound therapists are not aware of this use for ultrasound.

Usage of Garbage Enzyme

Garbage enzyme has many uses for the environment, agriculture and even in homes.

In agriculture, garbage enzyme is used:
  • to reduce the usage of chemical fertilizers
  • to keep the farm free from insects and infections
  • as a soil fertilizer for vegetable growing
  • as a natural pesticide and herbicide [Tried and it works well. More flowers on the plant :P]
  • to convert sandy land to fertile farm land
  • keep the air cool and clean in the farm atmosphere
  • clean the dirty and impure water in the farm

In homes, garbage enzyme is used:

  • as a household cleaning liquid
  • to remove foul odours, molds and grime in the kitchen and toilet
  • as an anti-bacterial and anti-viral agent
  • to drive away insects [Tried. No insects near / in dustbin. About 15 bottles of Garbage Enzyme next to it :)]
  • to clean carpets and remove ticks
  • for laundry washing and ironing
  • for mopping floors [Tried. The floor shines. It felt better when step-on]
  • for cleaning cars

How Rich Are We ??

One day a father and his rich family took his son on a trip to the country with the firm purpose to show him how poor people can be. They spent a day and a night on the farm of a very poor family. When they got back from their trip, the father asked his son, "How was the trip?" "Very good Dad!" "Did you see how poor people can be?" the father asked. "Yeah!" "And what did you learn?"

The son answered, "I saw that we have a dog at home, and they have four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of the garden; they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lamps in the garden; they have the stars. Our patio reaches to the front yard; they have a whole horizon." When the little boy was finished, his father was speechless. His son added, "Thanks, Dad, for showing me how 'poor' we are!"

Isn't it true that it all depends on the way you look at things? If you have love, friends, family, health, good humor and a positive attitude towards life -- you've got everything! You can't buy any of these things. You may have all the material possessions you can imagine, provisions for the future, etc.; but if you are poor of spirit, you have nothing!

The key is balance (Part 4 of 4)

However, we are by no means telling you to go forth and gain lower body weight either! The key to a healthy body is still about maintaining a reasonable balance. Therefore, it's a good idea to ensure you have a healthy BMI (body mass index).

HOW TO CALCULATE YOUR BMI
Divide your weight in kilograms by your height in metres squared (that's your height multiplied by it). A healthy BMI is between 18.5 to 25.

Fuller Thighs (Part 3 of 4)

CUTS RISK OF HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE

"Our body of research, as well as some others, suggest that leg fat is good fat," said Rachael Van Pelt, a researcher from The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism. "It's protective, at least with respect to the risk factors we've looked at." Studies in Sweden confirm that cellulite that has settled on thighs reduces the likelihood of fat deposits travelling around the body, which could compromise the heart. Researchers are not sure exactly why leg fat carries benefits, but this latest study complements the growing understanding that all fat is not alike. In recent years, it has become clearer that "visceral fat," which wraps around organs and swells waistlines, poses the greatest health danger, while "peripheral fat" on arms and legs is more benign and, according to recent research, may even be helpful.

Bottom line in longevity (Part 2 of 4)

A bigger bottom could be linked to good health and long life, say doctors.

The location of excess fat is more important than overall weight when it comes to good heart health in older women.

Researchers found that women who put on weight around their bottom, hips and thighs were less likely to suffer from heart disease than those with fat round the stomach.

This 'central fat' was more closely associated with atherosclerosis - the build-up of fatty material in the arteries that is often a prelude to a heart attack or stroke.

The study also found that 'peripheral fat' - on the bottom, legs and arms - was less strongly implicated in problems with the way the body processes blood sugar that can lead to diabetes, said Dr László Tankó.

Hip, hip hooray! Curvy means healthy (Part 1 of 4)

A curvaceous, pear shape means a woman is more likely to have stores of adiponectin, a protein hormone which has anti-inflammatory effects and is associated with reduced risk of heart attacks.

Danish scientists found the ideal measurements for a woman are at least size 14 with hips of 40 inches or more.

Berit Heitmann, professor of nutritional epidemiology at the Institute of Preventative Medicine in Copenhagen, said: "Fat on hips is different than fat on the abdomen. If you do not have enough of this fat you may risk heart attacks."

Feisty Princess Charmaine

Feisty Char needs bullets to fight!

From Wikipedia

Neuroblastoma is the most common extracranial solid cancer in childhood and the most common cancer in infancy, with an annual incidence of about 650 new cases per year in the US.[1] Close to 50 percent of neuroblastoma cases occur in children younger than two years old.[2] It is a neuroendocrine tumor, arising from any neural crest element of the sympathetic nervous system or SNS. Neuroblastoma is a solid tumor that most frequently originates in one of the adrenal glands, but can also develop in nerve tissues in the neck, chest, abdomen, or pelvis.

Esthesioneuroblastoma, also known as olfactory neuroblastoma, is believed to arise from the olfactory epithelium and classification remains controversial. Since it is not a sympathetic nervous system malignancy it is a distinct clinical entity not to be confused with neuroblastoma.[3][4]

Neuroblastoma is one of the rare human malignancies known to demonstrate spontaneous regression from an undifferentiated state to a completely benign cellular appearance.[5]

A disease exhibiting extreme heterogeneity, neuroblastoma is stratified into three risk categories: low, intermediate, and high risk. Low-risk disease is most common in infants and highly curable with observation only or surgery, whereas high-risk disease is difficult to cure even with the most intensive multi-modal therapies available.[6]

Dessert Purees - Pear & Carrot

Taken from Avent Leaflet
Pears are particularly good if you think your baby may be slightly constipated – if you are still breastfeeding, try drinking some pear juice yourself if your baby is constipated; it really seems to do the trick.

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 small carrot
  • 1 ripe pear

METHOD

  1. Peel the carrot and cut into small dice. Cook in a small pan of boiling water until the pieces are just tender (approximately 3-4 minutes). Alternatively, steam over a pan of boiling water (approximately 5 minutes). Drain.
  2. Peel and core the pear and cut into small pieces. Put them into a small pan with 2 tbsp water and cook until just softened (approximately 5 minutes), depending on the pear’s ripeness.
  3. Whiz the pear and carrot together with a blender or food processor until smooth.

Horrible Incident

I was not suppose to go work on last Friday (12-June-2009) because I was not feeling well that day but I did wake-up and prepare to go to work. The moment I stepped into the lift, my neighbor asked me "Do you know my wife passed away?". I was shocked. I sent my condolences. He told me his wife suffered from lung infection for 3 months and she actually recovered and without any reason, her heart stopped. I was so sorry to hear that. They are such a lovely couple. I always saw him but he never said a thing till that day.

So many signs. I should have listen to my intuition but I did not. I followed my daily routine and I reached my office car park. And then, this horrible incident happen.

I got snatched last Friday (12-June-2009) @ 9.00 am. He pulled my laptop bag from my right hand and the bag slipped away from me and it made me fall on the road as well. When I was on the road, I saw a big fat man riding on his motorbike (it sounds like Honda 70) and I saw him riding away with my laptop bag. From his riding action, I believed he could not believe how heavy my bag was as his riding a bit unstable for a while. I stand-up and run towards the motorbike but it disappear from my sight very soon. Soon enough, I start to slow down in running and head to my office. A lot viewer and they only helped to scream.

As soon as I reached my office, first time came to my mind was to call my hubby. The moment I heard his voice, my tears started to roll down uncontrollable.

I called banks to cancel my credit card and my ATM card and I called tele-communication provider to permanent block my cell phone as well.

My colleague told me to list down all items I got in my laptop bag before head down to the police station. Thanks to her and I start to picture what are inside my bag.

Then I head down to police station once my hubby arrived at my office. At the SEA Park police station, I logged my report about the incident. I was required to go to Kelana Jaya police station to be interviewed again by an Inspector. It is already 12 pm, when I was done with the police. I was really hoping to get my license and my IC at the same day.

Rushing to JPJ Petaling Jaya, hoping can get my license at day but the reception told me to get my temporary IC before I can do anything. Reluctantly, I head to JPN Petaling Jaya but they are closed for praying. I feel very disappointed and frustrated as well. I feel so helpless, at the same I am nobody at all – no identify ~ at the moment I feel like I am not exist at all in this world. How helpless… sigh…

Then, we headed to lock shop to change my house locks… all of them, just to be safe.

Travelling in the car for so long, I feel really frustrated and helpless. Then I start to feel my right hand start to be heavier, numb and the feeling like it going depart from my body. My neck and both of my shoulder are pain. Just a little movement, I feel pain.

Then I headed to Chinese Physician to get my nerve back and hopefully tomorrow will be better. By the time she finished with me – it is 2.45 pm. We took a chance and going to JPN Petaling Jaya one more time and hoping can get my temporary IC. By the time 3.30pm we reached JPN Petaling Jaya, I have to wait 41 persons before my turn. By 4.20pm, I got my temporary IC. Horray! And praise the Lord.

Then we rush to JPJ Petaling Jaya to get my license. The reception still giving out numbers, praise the lord. And I got my license by 4.45pm. YAHOO!!!!

Then I told my hubby, I am citizen back and I got my driving license as well. Then I told my hubby, I do not need you anymore. LOL. Then he reply… ya..ya…ya… LOL

Then we had our lunch at A & W at 5pm. Sigh… what a hectic day.

The moment we got home about 6.30pm, my hubby changes all locks.

Blue-black started to show itself around 7 pm. Never realized such a fall could do so much harm. By 9.00pm, my whole body is aching & sore and I have to sleep like “rest-in-peace” style. Not able to turn left & right.

When I woke up around 1 am in the morning and still saw my son sleeping next to me. I count my blessings.

Be extra careful no matter what happen, we do not know when this will happen.

More Excuses?

I had a bitter childhood, that bitterness slowly engraves itself to my heart, body & my soul. Those experienced hit really hard on me but those experienced also safe-guard me from making any mistake or make me an extra careful person. Those experienced taught me to work really hard to have a better future and to be independent.

I self-support myself till Degree by doing part-time for 4.5 years. Those years were tough but I did it.

When one hard earns anything, one tends to treasure it to heart. But when things come so easily, one tends not to appreciate it / basically just throw everything away. Result in hurting themselves and their loves one.

One must have strong will and determination in order to keep things in place and in order. In the end, no matter what / how – we need to know where we stand or where we were or what we want to be.

One self is the greatest enemy. Stop giving excuses. Strive for the best. If one tries hard enough, you will succeed.

That is what I always believe. Only our self can stop us from doing the thing because we can find a million and one excuses not to do it.

I do believe, if one self determine to do something – it will happen. If one self always give excuses – one self will only stand still at one point and will never move forward.

We, as human can plan & GOD determined the outcome BUT if we do not corporate – how do you expect GOD to help?!

Marriage? Parent? ??

When I was driving to work today, something cross my mind. Something I not so sure myself, I guess I will only know when my spirit depart from my body.

"No one tell me that marriage is hard and being a parent is twice as hard." ~ from "Marley & Me" movie.

Two persons from different background, different up-bringing, different character, different behaviour and the list can go on and on. So this two persons will living together under one roof and soon need to learn how to tolerant, how to share, how to divide, how to love, how to being loved and on & on & on.

When a baby come about, things change again. Hubby upgrade to daddy. Wife upgrade to mommy. And you know what - everything start like day 1. A daddy learn to be a daddy. A mommy learn to be a mommy. A baby learn to be a child.

Upon that time, life is so excited until when the baby learn to talk. Throwing tantrum when his/her needs not fulfill. House fills of noise pollution. And yet, do you enjoy life without a baby?

Nah.... life without a baby - is like life stand-still in that point where we as hubby & wife will never grow-up.

In some point of time, you wish you can turn back the clock or you wish to stand-still at one place and hoping not to move on. You may do like that but by doing that you hurt the person you love dearly without you notice.

Being a parent is a full-time commitment (of course) but it also reflect on you. Nothing but only you. Babies like a white sheet of paper - they know nothing at all. We as the parent paint the colors onto that paper - how we mould them - how we want them to be.

From day-to-day, the babies grow into you nothing but just like you. If you scream so much, they will act like you and behave like you. If you are nice, they are nice too. And we refer them as "little monster". LOL. Do you think : actually we are the "BIG MONSTER"?

With all this things happen, will husband & wife stand strong? Hold on to their believe? Still love each other dearly? Become grumphy together? Still be faithful?

It is never easy in life. It is sweet sometime. It is bitter sometime. And you know what? This make life interesting. But how long... how long you can hold on to your believe, to love your husband / wife, to stay faithful, to grow old & grumphy together.... HOW LONG????

No one... really... NO ONE can answer that. Relationship working based on trust. We can hope, wish and pray.

We learn every single day. No exception. Everyone does. It is really depends how you view it.

No one can change you except yourself. No one can mould you into something you do not want to unless you let them. Whatever you do or did... either you hurt your loves one or you love them. Everything start from you.....

Good day everyone!!!

Plenty of books. Plenty of people and plenty of cars as well. The novel book I brought at this fair only cost me for RM 5 (Normal Price : RM 15.00 - RM 19.70). Really cheap. I end-up buying 5 novels.

The children education CD such as Barney, Thomas and the Train @ RM 11 each.

Should visit if you can. End date : 7 June 2009 @ 11am till 10pm.

Bukit Jalil Park @ Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

This park is a huge park but not as huge as Titiwangsa. It is enough to make you sweat from the tip of your hair till the tip of your toes. Yesterday, the wheather is HOT... really HOT even though my family & I were there at about 5pm and it still HOT.

Nice scene and views and I saw monkeys... plenty of them. Nice place to have a walk and I just love to see my son walking with his daddy. The way they walk are the exactly the same... LOL... Like Father Like Son......

The fountain is at the other entrance but the park are connected and it got 2 man-made pools. The other side of the park is nicer and huge as well.

I saw a couple taking wedding photograph.... I am still thinking of taking another set of wedding photo....still thinking... have not make-up my minds yet. Me? Crazy? Is it? LOL.... Well, I guess I love to put memories on hold... and the only way to do that is through photograph... I meant nice photograph. I love the feelings, looking at the picture to see myself years back. Well, that is another story... do not want to dread too far from the park... :P

Here are some pictures for your viewing pleasures. Enjoy....
