Leak Again?!

I am so done with this brand.  I wonder do they have quality control over the product before placing it in the market.

I brought 4 boxes of this Jingle Jungle Breastmilk Storage Bags and each box consists of 25 bags.

1st box : 2 bags having leakage problem.
2nd box : 5 bags having leakage problem.  In the above photo are the 5th bags.  Sigh.  I still have 11 bags to go.

I am not sure what is the quality like for the 3rd & the 4th box.

I am so mad right now. Argggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..................

I brought a new sets of marker pen for him. Then when he saw this colorful little cups, he wants it.  I guess in his school have this little colorful cups.  When we reached home, he asked his daddy "where is the yellow pen?" because the yellow cup is empty.  Maybe next round, will buy him a yellow marker pen.

Lactation Cookies Recipe

Hanging out at http://theleakyboob.com/ a lot lately.  Found this lactation cookies very interesting, have not try myself - will do soon once I get hold of the ingredients.

Recipe contributed by Krista, photograph by Kari.

1 cup butter (softened)
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons flaxseed meal
4 tablespoons of water
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 tablespoons brewer’s yeast
3 cup rolled oats
1 cup chocolate chips

Soak the flaxseed in the water for a few minutes to soften.
Mix dry ingrediants.
Cream together butter and sugar, add eggs, flaxseed and vanilla.
Add to dry ingredients.

Drop on cookie sheet .
Bake 8 – 12 minutes on 375ยบ.
Enjoy.

A note from Krista : Just a quick note: I altered this recipe a bit to give it less sugar and more punch. I took out 1/4 c of both types of sugar for a 1/2 c decrease in sugar. I also doubled both the flax and the brewer's yeast. They didn't taste any different as far as I could tell.

Is your child gifted?

I read an article @ babycenter on children behavior problems.  I found it quiet true.  Here is the snippet of it:-

"Can behavior problems be a sign of giftedness?
Very bright children are often unusually strong willed, negotiate like lawyers, use sarcasm to make a point, refuse to suffer fools, or are overly critical. Sometimes, gifted children are disruptive in classrooms because they refuse to do exercises they consider to be busywork. Of course, all of this can be true of any kid, it's just more so for gifted children. Misbehavior in the classroom can sometimes indicate that grade-skipping could be in order. "
Somehow, I can relate them to JC as he is really strong-will child, constantly test my patient, constantly negotiating, constantly want attention and worst still when he wants your attention, there goes my living room - messy and it seems like been visit by twin tornado.

Pink Eye & Breast Milk

JC got pink eye on 18-Feb-2010.  His eyes was swallon, teary & the white area become red.  Breast milk was dropped into his eye on 19-Feb-2010 midnight.

After 4 days, his eye was back to original and pink eye is gone.  Breast milk rocks!!!

Cross my finger, give a silent prayer...

I had started JC on these routine yesterday:-
  • Diet-High protein, few processed carbs
    • Eggs | lean meat | white meat & poultry | fish | soy | beans | milk | cheese | yogurt
    • Cereals | fruits & vegetables.
  • Sleeping time sharp at 8.30pm.  By the time he really sleeping will be 10pm and I am hoping he can get at least 10 hours sleep.
  • I even give him fish oil so that he can get enough of Omega-3 fatty acids.
  • Reduce his intake of sweet, chocolate, soft-drink and even fast food.
I cross my finger and said a silent prayer, hoping this will increase the attention span in class.

All About Carbohydrates...

There are 2 types of carbohydrates - Complex Carbohydrate & Simpe Carbohydrate.  I guess JC's teacher trying to tell me about simple carbs.  These are what I have found out :-

Complex carbohydrates foods are basically those in wholegrain form such as wholegrain breads, oats, muesli and brown rice. Complex carbs are broken down into glucose more slowly than simple carbohydrates and thus provide a gradual steady stream of energy throughout the day.

The best way to provide the diet with complex carbohydrates is to consume foods in their most natural state such as oatmeal, bran and brown rice.
  • Bran
  • Wheatgerm
  • Barley
  • Maize
  • Buckwheat
  • Cornmeal
  • Oatmeal
The food list below shows good sources of complex carbohydrates.
  • Pasta
  • Macaroni
  • Spaghetti
  • Brown rice
  • Potatoes
  • Other root vegetables
  • Wholemeal breads
  • Granary bread
  • Brown bread
  • Pitta bread
  • Bagel
  • Wholegrain cereals
  • High fiber breakfast cereals
  • Porridge oats
  • All bran
  • Wheetabix
  • Shredded wheat
  • Ryvita crispbread
  • Muesli
  • Cassava
  • Corn
  • Yam
  • Oatcakes
  • Peas
  • Beans
  • Lentils
Simple carbohydrates are usually considered to be "bad" carbs, but these are those that have been processed and broken down before being put back together again in an unnatural way such as to produce a sweet product like chocolate.

Simple carbohydrates release the glucose faster into blood stream resulting "too much energy" in a child.

Psychologist vs Psychiatrist

Anyway, I been researching about the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?  The short answer is, psychiatrists are medical doctors and psychologists are not. The suffix "-iatry" means "medical treatment," and "-logy" means "science" or "theory." So psychiatry is the medical treatment of the psyche, and psychology is the science of the psyche.

According to Malaysian Psychiatric Association, we have both in Malaysia.

I am also surprised that HELP University College has a Centre For Psychological And Counseling Services and it is open to external clients (individuals, children, couples and families) who wish to seek counseling.

I called up to check and these are what I had found out from them:-
1st session : Meet the parents
2nd session: Meet the patient
3rd session: Assessment report

But I have yet decide to proceed.

Every Child is Unique.

When JC was 3 years old, his class teacher was concern as he still baby talks a lot. They did not understand what he was talking half the times! His teacher brought this matter up to me which I already consulted his paediatric way before teacher voiced anything. According to paediatric, JC was normal. Therefore, I told the teacher - he may be weak at his vocal but his other abilities are strong such as identified colours, shape, blocks & puzzle.

Later down the road, his class teacher told me he was the first child can drew a fish & a smiley face all by himself (even though the line was not perfect round/straight but you can easily identify it was a fish & a smiley face.)

Then he surprised his class teacher as he knew what is day & night and he can related both of them by singing :

Every day under the SUN,
Every night under the STAR,
Night & day,
I sleep & play.
He even sing twinkle twinkle little star for the night.

Now, he is in 4 years old class. His class teacher (different from his 3 years old teacher) insists me to bring him to do a psychology assessment. She compares JC with her other 23 students by saying "Your son is the only one who cannot talk properly and you should not giving him cheese as cheese contains a lot of carbohydrate that make him hyper-functioning." Then I was like o_O (in my heart was like "Are you sure?" - I told myself I will Google for information about this little thing called carbohydrate).

She does not even let him go to toilet if he did not ask properly. Another o_O. Her expectation is that, you must ask properly before she allowed you go to toilet and those words are "Teacher, may I go to toilet, please?"

My son put it this way :-
JC : Teacher, shee shee?
Teacher : I do not understand what are you talking. Talk properly
JC : Teacher,.... may.... I..............(stuck somewhere).... shee shee
Teacher : What is shee shee? It is toilet.
JC : Toilet
Teacher : Where is the magic word?
JC : Please.

Teacher also said he is very good in his colouring, he manages to colour a picture with multiple colours and once he is done, he will flip the paper and started to draw and colour them and tells teacher about his drawing.

She also added, my son totally not interested in Mandarin class. He would wonder off. Beside than that, she also claims that my son cannot take simple instruction unless she is very firm.

As a mommy, I think my son is fine.  He maybe slow at his vocal but his ability to think, his observation, his logical thinking and his analytical amazed me.

I believe God created every child to be unique.  Everything else, it is just a guideline.

When we were out and when she was fussy, placed her in this pouch. It can calm her down and she can finished her milk without much persuasive.
The power of babywear. Yeah!!!!

Breast Milk Storage Method

Way before I purchased the freezer, I was keep on thinking way to maximize my freezer to keep more breast milks. Then I came across on article about making breast milk as ice cube and store it in zip lock bag.

I am very particular about frozen breast milk, how to store it, is it safe, is it correct & etc.... Then later, when I found out Tupperware got sell ice cube tray with lid, I purchased it straight away without a second thought & this is how it look like.

But then, do not know where is it because I am petite or what. When the breast milk was frozen in the ice cube tray, I try to twist & turn - it did not manage to come out so easily as I expected. Resulting the edge cube started to melt. After making it twice, the result still the same.

Then I try to put some cool-off boiled water to make ice cube and try to twist n turn, result still the same. But my hubby did it so easy. In short, I do not have enough strength to twist n turn this ice cube tray. Maybe a couple of practice shall make it perfect.

7 signs your child loves you

1. Your newborn stares into your eyes.

  • He's actually working hard to memorize your face. He doesn't understand anything else about the world, but he knows you're important.

2. Your baby thinks about you even when you're not around.

  • Between 8 and 12 months old, he'll start to scrunch his face and look around when you leave the room — and he'll smile when you return.

3. Your toddler throws wicked tantrums.

  • Nope, those screaming fits don't mean he's stopped loving you. He wouldn't be so hurt and angry if he didn't trust you so deeply.

4. Your toddler runs to you for comfort when he falls down or feels sad.

  • Kids this age may not truly understand the meaning of "I love you," but their actions speak louder than words.

5. Your preschooler gives you a flower picked from the garden, a finger-painted heart, a sparkly rock, or another gift.

6. Your preschooler wants your approval.

  • He'll start to be more cooperative around the house, and he'll look for chances to impress. "Look at me!" will become a catchphrase.

7. Your grade-schooler trusts you with secrets, like his first crush or his most embarrassing moment.

  • You're his confidante, even if he shies away from your hugs in public.

Diet? Weight Control? Weight Loss?

When I was pregnant with my 1st child, I weighted 58kgs when I gave birth to him. I thought it was bad. Then, when I was pregnant with JE, I weighted 60kgs when I was 6 months pregnant. My gynae keeps on saying "Control your food."
I usually weighted about 42-44kgs, so when I was 60kgs, moving around was a problem and worst part is I have another 3 months to go.
What I did was replace my rice with rolled oat & my hubby particular loves this organic oats as he really does not like quaker oat.

So, my lunch & dinner were rolled oats with vegetables, meat, fish & soups. I managed to maintain at 60kgs till I delivered JE. She was 36 weeks & 2 days & weighted 2.84kgs at birth.

I weighted 55kgs on her birth day. On my 6 weeks checkup, I weighted 48kgs. Today, I weighted 45.9kgs and I am still breastfeeding JE. The power of breastfeeding that I slim down so fast & I am SUPER HAPPY about it.......
