George Carlin

I got this email from a colleague. It is so true. I hope you enjoy as much as I do.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Isn't it amazing that George Carlin - comedian of the 70s and 80s - could write something so very eloquent...and so very appropriate.

A Message by George Carlin:

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways , but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things.

We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete...

Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.

Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.

Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.

Remember, to say, 'I love you' to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.

Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.

Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Kuala Kurau

When I Google for a place called "Kuala Kurau" located in Perak, it appears just a little dot on the map.

I was like O_O : how on earth do I get there. Called my hubby's best friend to get the exit location and after 3.5 hours of driving, the signboard start to show the direction to Kuala Kurau. Horray!!!

Then, we pass the scary bridge because it is so high-up but nice view when you look down.

A nice little town with no stress at all, peaceful small little town. Eventually, it is a nice place. Maybe one day, will go there again for their famous asam laksa & their seafood as well.

Baby Food

What is the first thing come to your mind? It is a bowl of plain porridge or Gerber or Heinz.

The first thing came to my mind was a bowl of porridge filled with at least 4 vegetables. Where do I learn that? - from Shanice about 5 years ago.

I started my research on baby food when my son approaching 5 months. I want him to get all nutrients from a bowl of porridge rather just a bowl of carbohydrate.

I even did my own food puree and put it in the freezer and it can last to up 1 month, but most of time - I will wake up early just to do fresh puree for him. His favorite are carrots & sweet corns. He can finished 3 sweet corns at one time. ^_^. I love to make fresh puree for him because he will finish his food most of the time. I guess that make me a great chef for baby food. LOL.

Below was his porridge last week, it contains brown rice, spinach, carrots, garlic, anchovies and egg. I love it when he opened his mouth wide open to welcome a spoonful of porridge.

Weight lose and breastfeeding

I love breastfeeding and still do. I successful fully breastfeed my son till he was 13 months. Why I stop? Thinking of having number 2 but been put on hold for a little while.

I love the most about breastfeeding, beside that giving my son the best milk, because of the ability to lose weight naturally. ^_^

I weighted 41.4kgs when I found out that I pregnant and weighted 59kgs by the time I delivered. Total gained weight is 17.6kgs.

Second day of my delivery, I weighted 54kgs (so the baby + placenta + water = 5kgs). Oh my goodness, I gained 12.6kgs.

At 6 weeks after delivery, I lost 6kgs. So I weighted 48kgs.

By the end of my confinement (another 6 weeks), I lost another 3kgs.

After working for 2 months + stress + project rushed, I lost another 2kgs.

I managed to go all the way till 41.6kgs when my son was 1 year. Now, I gained another 2kgs (now about 44kgs). I am trying real hard to lose some more and hopefully can go back to 42kgs. :)

Naturally beautiful

Ten foods for radiant skin, strong nails and luscious locks, by Nutritionist Dr Joanna Mcmillan Price.

1. Salmon
Oily fish such as salmon are fabulously rich in essential omega-3 fats. These reduce inflammation and provide essential nourishment for the skin. Other oily fish include sardines, mackerel, anchovies and trout. To benefit from oily fish you have to eat it at least twice a week.

I also recommend taking an additional daily omega-3 supplement, otherwise optimal levels are too hard to reach. If you suffer from eczema or psoriasis you should probably up the dose – there’s good scientific backing to show it can help. Oily fish are also one of the few good sources vitamin D, essential for the absorption of calcium to build strong nails.

2. Dark green leafy vegies
These are a daily must for maximum anti-ageing power. The darker the green the better, because this usually indicates higher levels of antioxidants. These fight the free radicals that damage cells and accelerate ageing of the skin.

Beta-carotene, one of these antioxidants, can also form vitamin A in the body, a common ingredient in face creams and an essential nutrient for healthy hair.

Feed your skin from the outside by including leafy greens daily and watch your skin bloom. Spinach, silver beet, kale , rocket, watercress, Asian greens and dark green cabbage varieties all qualify.

3. Mussels and oysters
They’re high in protein, good sources of omega-3 fats and the clear front runners for providing zinc, a mineral essential for skin healing and preventing infections. Increased zinc can help acne and other skin conditions, but is also essential for all of us to maintain healthy radiant skin. If you are plagued with dandruff, upping your zinc just might help.

4. Berries
They look delectable, they taste divine and they top the charts for antioxidant power. What’s not to like about berries? They’re also rich in vitamin C, an antioxidant to combat the ageing process, but also necessary for the building of collagen, the protein that gives skin its elasticity and strengthens capillaries to help reduce veins and easy bruising.

5. Nuts and seeds
They provide all the right kinds of fat that nourish our skin and promote shiny healthy hair. They are also rich in the antioxidant vitamin E to combat free-radical damage, which contributes to skin ageing.

6. Carrots
This humble vegie is one of the richest sources of beta-carotene, which acts both as an antioxidant in is own right and can be made into vitamin A, which repairs and maintains healthy skin.

7. Tea
Different teas contain different antioxidants, but they all have the potential for anti-ageing benefits. Green tea has even been shown to help rejuvenate skin cells. Tannins in tea can reduce your absorption minerals in food, however, so try to drink your tea between rather than with meals.

8. Barley
Australian research has recently shown that a low-GI diet containing whole grains such as barley helps to relieve acne and improve the skin. Barley also provides the antioxidant mineral selenium and good levels of several other vitamins and minerals that play roles in the growth of healthy skin, hair and nails.

9. Avocado
Arguably the most nutritious food, avocados provide all the right kinds of fat to nourish your skin, numerous vitamins and minerals, and several antioxidants that help to protect your skin from ageing free-radical and sun damage.

10. Kiwi fruit
We tend to think of citrus fruit as being the best sources of vitamin C, but in fact the plentiful kiwi fruit ranks second only to the more elusive guava. So go green and hairy for extra collagen-boosting vitamin C.

Life is so precious

I heard 3 stories that make my gut twist and I still feel sad and at the same time I count my blessings and praise the Lord for giving me a normal & healthy son.

1st story: She planed for a baby and she got pregnant for 6 weeks before she went to see gynae but the gynae landed her with a new “Your baby do not have heart beat. Your baby needs to be removed”.

2nd story: Home pregnancy tested positive but when the gynae did an ultrasound, the baby was not found. Followed by a blood test, confirmed she was pregnant. When she was on a monthly checkup when she was 3 months pregnant, the gynae landed her with a very bad news – the baby was not developed probably.

She went for a second opinion, this gynae told her, the baby’s brain contain water, the legs are abnormal and organs were grown externally. Even though the baby still got heart beat but need to be removed.

3rd story: She was pregnant for 4 months and on her monthly checkup, her gynae told her, the baby had no heart beat (why baby out of sudden no heart beat – reason was unknown); as a result baby need to removed. She had to go through normal delivery by induce to have the baby removed.

There are many unlucky event happen and sometime it meant to be happen, so that we shall learn patient, perseverance, hope, faith and love.

I really hope they stay strong; after a painful lost. I hope they continue to have hope and faith. I do believe everything happen for a reason and we might not know why just yet, maybe we will later.

Giving birth to a new life is a wonderful & great experience. Educate & nurture them are another. We always get up & down in our life – like Forest Gump said “Life is like a box of chocolate, we would not know what we will get.” Bitter & sweet experiences are part of life regardless we like it or not. Everyone will go through them; it is part of growing up process.

Life is so precious; treasure them while you still can.

Beautifully Imperfect

My colleague gave me this link and reminded me to watch. I did. If you have a little moment, please do watch the video because it is a very beautiful & touching story.

It talked about a wife recently lose her husband and she gave a speech during the funeral making everyone appreciate what they have.

The small little things that he did when he still alive tends to be annoying but he left, you will wish he is here and doing those little things that annoy you. We as a human tends not appreciate what we have but when we did; it is always too late.

When you see your loves one tonight, give them hugs and tell you how much you really love them.

Till then. Enjoy the video.

p/s: It touch my little heart.

Manuka Honey

I gave my son try this manuka honey for a week and his cough really getting better. Now he keeps on asking for honey whenever he wants it. LOL.

When I was away for my class on Sunday for about 4 hours. My son consumed 2 bottles of 8oz manuka honey, 1 bottle of 8oz milk, 1.5 bowls of porridge and 1 bowl of soup with carrots. According to my hubby, he missed me so much and maybe he was under stress and make him consumed so much things.

Is there such a thing? I am not sure and I was super surprised by his action.

I enjoyed it when I came home, he running to me and keep calling me. ^_^...

L.O.V.E

I received this email a year ago, I love this story and it is beautiful. I still have tears in my eye when I read it again. The story goes like this:-
---------------------------------------------------------------------
A farmer had some puppies he needed to sell. He painted a sign advertising the 4 pups. And set about nailing it to a post on the edge of his yard. As he was driving the last nail into the post, he felt a tug on his overalls. He looked down into the eyes of a little boy.

'Mister,' he said, 'I want to buy one of your puppies.'

'Well,' said the farmer, as he rubbed the sweat off the back of his neck, 'These puppies come from fine parents and cost a good deal of money.'

The boy dropped his head for a moment. Then reaching deep into his pocket, he pulled out a handful of change and held it up to the farmer.

'I've got thirty-nine cents. Is that enough to take a look?'

'Sure,' said the farmer. And with that he let out a whistle.

'Here, Dolly!' he called.

Out from the doghouse and down the ramp ran. Dolly followed by four little balls of fur.

The little boy pressed his face against the chain link fence. His eyes danced with delight. As the dogs made their way to the fence, the little boy noticed something else stirring inside the doghouse.

Slowly another little ball appeared, this one noticeably smaller. Down the ramp it slid. Then in a somewhat awkward manner, the little pup began hobbling toward the others, doing its best to catch up....

'I want that one,' the little boy said, pointing to the runt. The farmer knelt down at the boy's side and said, 'Son, you don't want that puppy. He will never be able to run and play with you like these other dogs would.'

With that, the little boy stepped back from the fence, reached down, and began rolling up one leg of his trousers.

In doing so he revealed a steel brace running down both sides of his leg, attaching itself to a specially made shoe.

Looking back up at the farmer, he said, 'You see sir, I don't run too well myself, and he will need someone who understands.'

With tears in his eyes, the farmer reached down and picked up the little pup.

Holding it carefully he handed it to the little boy.

'How much?' asked the little boy. 'No charge,' answered the farmer, 'There's no charge for love.'

I hope you enjoy the story as much as I do.

The Human Embryo

I can feel her anger and frustration reading through her blog. Read on "A Life Is Still A Life". I found this snippet very interesting and I copy & paste here to share with you all (I hope Sae Wei does not mind).

Week 1-3 5-7 days after fertilization, the blastula attaches to the wall of the uterus (endometrium). When it comes into contact with the endometrium it performs implantation. Implantation connections between the mother and the embryo will begin to form, including the umbilical cord. The embryo's growth centers around an axis, which will become the spine and spinal cord. The brain, spinal cord, heart, and gastrointestinal tract begin to form.

Week 4-5 Chemicals produced by the embryo stop the woman's menstrual cycle. Neurogenesis is underway, showing brain activity at about the 6th week.[citation needed] The heart will begin to beat around the same time. Limb buds appear where the arms and legs will grow later. Organogenesis begins. The head represents about one half of the embryo's axial length, and more than half of the embryo's mass. The brain develops into five areas. Tissue formation occurs that develops into the vertebra and some other bones. The heart starts to beat and blood starts to flow.

Source from wikipedia

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After reading this, do you still think it is only an embryo or you view it as a life. Regardless you can accept it or not; once you conceive, a new life begin.

That is my 2 cents.
